Non root install

Post by reveye »

I have built and configured Nagios and its prerequisites, successfully, several times before on different systems. I am now in an environment(RHEL) where I do not have root access to my servers. I only have admin access to the application I support. I have been trying for over a week now to get all these prereq's and Nagios built and installed in a non root location, but just cannot get this thing to function correctly.......Has anyone had any experience, or can point me in the direction of some instructions which might help me out? I figure somebody has had to have done this before?? It just seems that Nagios has too many root dependencies to run outside of the root filesystem. Maybe I'm wrong.

I haven't done it myself, but I'm sure it's possible. Projects like 0install, GoboLinux and Nix have shown that nearly everything can be installed in non-standard locations. You may have more luck talking to one of those communities; they probably have more experience with it.
