Nagios XI in Windows VM - anyone using this? I need some help
I've been testing out various versions of network monitors and wanted to give Nagios a try. They have a Windows VM download on their website and since I have Virtual PC on my laptop I thought that would be quick and easy to test. I started it, gets Invalid Checksum, 20 segmentation faults, and then kernel panic.

To run XI on a Windows machine, there are 2 options:
- OVAs (Open Virtualization Format) with Nagios XI pre-installed, can be deployed on VMware Workstation Player, VMware ESXi, or VirtualBox.
- VHD (Virtual Hard Disk) is available for deployment on Microsoft Hyper-V.

I ran into similar issues when trying to use Nagios XI on a Windows VM with Virtual PC. From what I’ve learned, Virtual PC isn’t fully compatible with some VM formats like OVAs or VHDs that Nagios provides.poor bunny
If possible, I’d recommend switching to VMware Player or VirtualBox for better support with Nagios XI OVAs. Also, if you have the option, trying the Linux installation on a VM (like Ubuntu) might be smoother and less prone to these kernel panic errors.

VMware Workstation will work. I believe it is now free.
VirtualBox is another valid option.
