nagios user account

Post by veeravamsi »

Hi Team,

Does changing the nagios user account password will affect authentication that NRPE agent rely on all target nodes ?

We are using NRPE on many linux systems and we are forced to update password for useraccounts because of security protocals. So im just checking if updating nagios user password impact anything to monitoring .

Hi @veeravamsi,

Thanks for reaching out. My first suggestion is to make a backup, before attempting to change the password.

As long as the account and/or password does NOT expire, I believe it should be Ok. I do not have direct experience with this myself, so please make a backup, before you try it.
Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Changing the Nagios user account password typically does not affect NRPE authentication, as NRPE relies on allowed hosts and command definitions—not user credentials. However, if scripts or scheduled tasks use that account for SSH or other access, you’ll need to update those accordingly.
