How to monitor bandwidth utilization in Nagios Core on Azure?

Post by gonetransform »

I installed Nagios Core on an Azure VM a few months ago. With basic setup, I can monitor ping and uptime for my network devices.

Now I want to track bandwidth usage (real-time and historical), interface errors, and see how our Internet link utilization changes over time to spot bottlenecks.

Can this be done in Nagios Core (maybe using SNMP or plugins)? If yes, could someone share a simple guide or example setup?

Or do I need to move to Nagios XI — and if so, how can I deploy it on Azure, since I don’t see it in the Marketplace?

Thanks!

Hello,

It sounds like you are looking for getting performance graphs, which Nagios Core can do, but not out of the box without additional configuration. I will link an article that can help you get started. https://support.nagios.com/kb/article.php?id=801.

Nagios XI can do performance graphs out of the box, but to deploy XI to Azure you will either need to setup a dedicated Linux server yourself, or import the VMware OVA file to Azure (if that is possible I am not entirely sure). I will include link to the Nagios XI Linux install doc here https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... I-2024.pdf.
Cheers,
