Sustained High CPU Usage-Nagios XI 2026R1.5

Post by igae1 »

Hello Nagios Support Team,

We are experiencing a significant increase in CPU utilization on our Nagios XI server running Nagios XI 2026R1.5 and modgearman.

The issue started around July 7th–8th without any Nagios XI or operating system upgrades. Since then, MySQL (mysqld) has been consuming significantly more CPU, resulting in higher system load and degraded overall performance.

We have performed an extensive investigation, including:

Historical performance analysis using Grafana.
Apache access log analysis.
AJAX request analysis.
Dashboard investigation.
Apache and PHP-FPM health checks.
MySQL process and status analysis.

We also investigated a global dashboard that was created around the time the issue started. Although it initially appeared to be related, removing the dashboard did not resolve the problem.

A detailed report containing our findings, collected evidence, log statistics, and the troubleshooting steps already performed is attached to this case.

Could you please review the attached document and advise whether this behavior is related to any known issue in Nagios XI 2026R1.5, or suggest additional diagnostics to identify the source of the increased MySQL workload?

Thank you for your assistance

We had the same behavior. Support had me run some maint scripts but they didn't really do anything.

We run RHEL8 in AWS and ended up having to up our instance type to get performance back.

Definitely this is a situation where the support team can be the most help. The Nagios dev team staffs the forum. We know a lot AND the support team troubleshoots things all the time.
