monitor vmware virtual machines automatically

Post by nky1986 »

I am using nagios 2012 r1.0.

I am able to monitor vmware severs and virtual machines running over them.

I would like to ask, if this is possible to automatically monitor newly created virtual machines on vmware servers.

Because whenever a new virtual machine is created, i have to go to nagios and manually add that. When any virtual machine is deleted then i have to manually delete that from nagios.

Is there any fix for this use case.

This document tells, how to add host and services from command line.

I wanted to know, how we can detect new services for already added host.

In case of vmware,
if we add esxi host and after some time there are new VMs, then

how nagios can detect these VMs

This isn't builtin yet but is on the roadmap for the Enterprise version in the future.

As of right now you can schedule auto discovery to get a list if new items, and then use the bulk import wizard to add the newly found VM's

I totally understand, like I have mentioned previously, this isn't builtin yet but is on the roadmap for the Enterprise version in the future.
