Check Linux Log Files

Post by gshergill »

Hi Nagios Support,

I've checked on the exchange and seen some wizards/plugins for checking log files for specific events.

Unfortunately, the majority of these seem geared towards Windows EventLog.

Which plugin would you recommend for checking a Linux host's log files, and returning errors if a specific event appears?

Thank you.

Kind Regards,

There are a quite a few Linux/perl based options as well, it kind of depends on what you are trying to accomplish

Hi scottwilkerson,

Thank you, I will check those plugins out now.

The aim is to search through log files for errors and report back to me what the error was.

In addition, to check for messages relating to services going offline/restarting.

From first glance, check_logfiles seems to be the best one but will try all three.

Thank you.

Kind Regards,
