1) You got that correct. By re-install we mean you must use a new system, installing XI overtop of XI is not tested and will not have the intended effect. That is installing XI does not remove or replace all of the existing configuration.
2) I just don't follow you at all here.
If I'm not mistaken you are still faced with your original problem? Didn't you have an issue importing your Nagios Core configuration. My best guess was that you uploaded two diffrent files with the same name.
Listen to me, assumptions and guessing. Let me know exactly what is going on if you need further assistance.

In this document, I attach screenshots of the configuration done since I reinstalled.
If it's ok ............... I will do the same thing for 280 servers and 1800 services ....... and then I expect that everything will continue to operate.
Maybe I am attaching the old configuration of nagios core just to get an idea.
In the end will look like.

I'm text centric, but you can zip anything and attach that to this forum. I don't follow images at all, other then text that can't be copied or manipulated they are lost on me... I'd rather have the HTML source contaned in a code markup, at least then I can copy and edit things.

We may have found a source of this mysterious issue of disappearing table data. Take a look at this FAQ and see if it has any relationship to your disappearing table information.
