Installing Nagios in an internet restricted area?

Post by disrael »

We have a server that can't access the internet due to security policy. I am trying to install Nagios XI. Before I keep looking for ways is there anyway to install Nagios XI w/o an internet connection?

Generally speaking Internet connection is required - see our Administrators Guide.
Internet access is required for installation and upgrades!
Having said that, you can open a new support ticket in our system by emailing us at [email protected], and we will work with on on this issue.

Okay I spoke to my guys and I think I realized that having a system in the internet restricted environment might be pointless to begin with.

We have a main server in an area that requires a proxy to access the internet. We have the Nagios Proxy component installed and configured so we can see when we need new updates etc. Since we have this proxy component installed, does this mean if we try to monitor a URL i.e. google.com, will the monitor use the proxy settings in the component?

Note: The internet restricted zone only allows for incoming requests and replies to those requests.

Is it a fully cached squid style proxy? Usually you can monitor a url through a proxy just fine. But certain proxy setups will use heavy caching, leading to inconsistent results.

I tried
telnet www.google.com 80

and it wouldn't connect, though doing a wget worked. The proxy doesn't use any authentication, just a DNS + port number. I looked and there is an application called proxy chains. I wonder if this would assist us in what we are trying to do.

Again, you can open a support ticket in our system, so that we can help you with an offline installer. In order for your Nagios XI to work in such environment though, you will need to set it up to work with your proxy. Please, review our wiki post on the topic:
