Disabling child Notifications by Network outages

Post by sievers »

Hello,

I have a question on configuring child node notifications

For example:

I have a parent Host which is a router. The router is configured to be checked every 1 minute by nagios

Behind this router I have 10 child notes (to which the router is parent) consisting of servers and switches. These hosts are configured to be checked every 5 minutes

Now what I want to know is how to configure Nagios to not sent out Critical notifications from the child nodes (Since Nagios cannot contact the whole site) if the Router is unavailable. The same goes for once the parent recovers, no recovery notifications should be sent for the child nodes

Configuring this would be helpfull since I only want to receive a outage notification from the router and not from all the child nodes.

Is this possible with nagiosxi

We are currently using NagiosXI 2012 v1.5

To disable notifications for "unreachable" hosts, uncheck the "u" box under the child's notification options in the CCM. That way, you will not be notified that the children are unreachable, but still receive notifications from the parent. If your notification options are set through a template, you will need to change the setting there as well.
