Backend database

New to Nagios and working on project so thanks in advance to any and all help.

In regards to the Nagios backend DB I have found information for NDOUtil / MySQL combo, Merlin / Ninja combo, PostgreSQL and Oracle. My question is does Nagios core or Nagios XI work with a MS SQL 2008 / 2008 R2 backend db?

Doing some digging I was unable to find any mention of people actually replacing a database with MSSQL, this would be totally unsupportable by us as well due to the huge risk of dataloss or moving parts stopping. Is this what you were looking at doing? Or something else?
