Im in the process of upgrade nagiosXi to the last release (VM download)
We are using sendmail in the email setup
In the contacts section we have some contacts for users and another contacts names for distribution lists on exchange servers
-If we send alerts to a contact (with AD account), email is working
-If we send alerts to a contact representing an exchange list(the email of the contact is a distribution list), no email arrived
-If we change the email address for a user contact with AD account , to the distribution list email, email is working
-If we send email from command line/ sendmail to distribution list, is working
We didnt change email configuration, not using AD with nagios
HELP!!!!
My last guess..i created a nagios user with the same name than the contact representing the distribution list, and email start going out. This is really weird, because users and contacts are separate concepts
No emails going out for email groups

You are correct, they are seperate concepts and it will likely come down to you what you set as the host/service notification handler.
ONLY contacts that are also XI users can use
xi_host_notification_handler
xi_service_notification_handler
http://library.nagios.com/library/produ ... d-contacts
So, if you have that set it will not work until you have a XI user created.
