Ping Alerts HOST UP

Post by felipe.costa »

Hi guys,

Nagios is working great, my services are and postfix mail alerts are great too.

The only think i don't undertand is why nagios is sending mail alerts for Ping saying Host is OK and UP.

How can i disable it? i Just want alerts when the server is down, if server's up i dont need alerts.

It's funny bcecause the other servers are not sending mail alerts saying their up.

Example of alerts:

***** centreon Notification *****

Type:PROBLEM
Host: Srvmorar-vm01
State: UP
Address: 192.168.0.34
Info: PING OK - rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.208/0.239/0.274/0.032 ms
Date/Time: 19-02-2013

Is it possible that host is flapping between up and down states?

well... i dunno if it's only happen with me but i have 3 hosts that are sending mail alerts from my storage (It's in 99%) and they send the same host alert saying it's UP.
It's just a nagios way to say that "yeah your storage is critic but relax your server is UP?"

Are you receiving any alerts notifying you that the server is down or unreachable?

I think I know what the problem here might be... is it possible you have configured those services to notify-host-by-email instead of notify-service-by-email?

This would cause Nagios to send a "host UP" email instead of "service critical" email when a service (like storage full) trips a threshold.

Don't you want to know when/if the host has recovered?
