Which type of creating notification contact is better?
Which type of creating notification contact is better?
In "Manage User" by creating new user and check "Monitoring Contact", or in CCM by adding new contacts, if choose, which one is suggesting in notification alert?
Re: Which type of creating notification contact is better?
Hi! I'm by no means an expert and I have a pretty small environment compared to others, but here's what I've done:
I have email Distribution Groups created so I can add/remove users easily to hosts/groups of hosts by changing the DL memberships. The DL is actually a user in Nagios, the account email address points to the DL email address. When I create a new host, I just specify which DL account gets the luv.
Any user that needs to be able to login and manage gets a user account, but that account isn't added to any notifications/alerts - they get alerts based on DL memberships.
Again, this is just they way that works best in our environment, you're mileage may vary...

Good luck!

Hi Scobi,
1. Thanks a lot for your kind reminding of other way in email group notification.
2. This way doesn't fit because we are not allowed to manage or change the email server.

I recommend
I also recommend creating contact groups and primarily adding the contact groups to your monitoring this way if a person switches departments, quits, etc you simply need to remove the contact & add their replacement to the contact group instead of adding them to all the hosts and services.
Because it also creates an XI user and lets the user manage their own notification preferences, as well as makes the mail send based on the mail settings in XI.xpertech wrote:In "Manage User" by creating new user and check "Monitoring Contact",
