Upgrading to a major version of RHEL?

Post by disrael »

Nagios,

According to RH, they do not support or recommend upgrading to a major version of RH from and older one. i.e. from RHEL 5.8 to RHEL 6.3.

That being said, my manager wants us to upgrade from RHEL 5.8 to the latest 6.x of RH our data centers support. What is the official supported and suggested method of upgrading to a newer version of RHEL, when you are running Nagios XI, from the Nagios team? Would it be better to build a new system and migrate the data to a new install of Nagios XI?

This. You may run into a number of package problems by attempting the upgrade. If Redhat does not recommend it, we definitely do not. Build a new box, migrate the rrds and configs, test it for a while, and then deploy when you are comfortable with the tests.

If you could send in a ticket for this, we don't handle offline installer issues through the forum... but suffice to say if you wish to use 6.3 from a new install, we can handle that.
