I have the following scenario:
I have several servers (hosts) running Windows as a member of the "Windows Servers" host group. I have a "Disk Usage" service assigned to "Windows Servers" via the hostgroup_name directive in the service definition. The Disk Usage service is a WMI check that has warn set to 80% and critical at 90%. Suppose most of my servers are under 80% usage, but two of them are consistently at 85% and I don't want this to appear as a warning because I know about them. Is there any way to grant an exception here? I created another "Disk Usage" service with a different Config name, but the same display name and description but changed the thresholds to 90% and 95%. I assigned it directly to the hosts that had full drives. I applied the configuration and checked the frontend. I scheduled an immediate check and the alert went from warning me at 85% usage to OK at 85% usage.
Is this by design or is this going to work unreliably? Right now that host has a service assigned via its hostgroup and a service assigned via its actual host. The two services have different config names, but the same description and display name. The host assignment appears to be overriding the hostgroup assignment. I figure this is by design or just by chance (order of parsing the config files).
I'm using Nagios XI with the Nagios CCM for all of these settings.
Any input?
Thank you for your time,

Re: Override Service On Host? Feature or Coincidence?
This may be an instance where you would want to create separate configurations for those two "special" servers as they don't need to use the same threshold as the template. Another thing you could try would be creating a BPI group if you have access to Enterprise edition features:
