Monitoring Esxi 5.x hosts

Post by actimizer »

Hi

I have been going out of my mind lately because, no matter what I do, I can't seem to setup monitoring of our ESXi 5.x hosts.

I have installed the SDK and all the prereqs as suggested in the manual and on this forum. http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagi ... ios_XI.pdf

I have updated all I can think of: Nagios XI 2012R2.1, VMware config wizzard 1.5, VMware-vSphere-Perl-SDK-5.1.0-780721.x86_64

All other types of hosts - Linux and Windows are running fine.

The wizzard seems to finish fine, but the host will fail ping test, and all services will get status of timeout.

I have no idea where to go next  Plz assist

Best regards

If the host fails the ping check, it most likely cannot be reached by the XI server. Can you ping the host from the cli? Is there a firewall/router between the XI server and the ESX server?

Problem solved.

Not really sure why it worked - but a reboot of Nagios did the trick ( quite sure I did that once before).

Hmmmm - not reasuring - but a solution none the less

Thx

Hmm, maybe configuration changes somewhere had to get a grip, thanks for letting us know.
