Host and Monitoring Engine Process Issue

Post by ckk »

Hi,

Have recently downloaded the VMware version of Nagiosxi and almost have it working. (Monitoring windows server 2008 64bit with nsclient)

When adding hosts they do not appear in the below menus at all only the default Localhost, google and yahoo work atm.

Details
Service Detail
Host Detail
Hostgroup Summary
Hostgroup Overview
Hostgroup Grid
Servicegroup Summary
Servicegroup Overview
Servicegroup Grid

They are appearing however in the config manager menus below where i added them using the wizard.

Monitoring
Hosts
Services
Host Groups
Service Groups

I have also noticed the monitoring engine process has a red light and attempts to start it says successful but light stays red.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
I cant find much help on the net/forum regarding diagnosing these problems I have been looking for days :(

Are you able to "Apply Configuration" in the Core Config Manager? No changes get written to file until the configuration verification is successful and the Apply goes through successfully. The Core Config Manager is just a DB driven manager for the config files. You can use the Core Config Manager->Write Config Tool in order to do a verification within the web interface. This will let you troubleshoot if you have errors in your configuration.

You can also start the monitoring engine again from the Admin menu, or by Applying configuration (provided the config is OK).

thanks for that! very useful.

1.
under admin --> XI System Component Status
everything is green and i was able to restart them all EXCEPT Event data which is 2 days old and orange.

2.
Write Config worked fine. Write monitoring data Write additional data Check configuration files: all passed with no issues. However...

3.
Restart Nagios:
Restart failed - Nagios command file not found or no execute permissions

/etc/rc.d/init.d/nagios restart does work from the console though.

4.
System Status --> Monitoring Engine Process (Still red and wont start)
Admin --> XI System Component Status --> Monitoring Process (Started)

5.
Applied config in every place possible and was successful.

Thanks so much for your help!
