Best Way to Visualize Nagios Configuration?

Post by matt.uebel »

Nagios XI configuration can get quite complicated, considering the amount of templates involved for both Hosts and Services, and then also considering how much configuration can actually ends up at the host level.

What is the best way to Visualize the total configuration? I can picture the Template Hierarchy, with Hosts and Services as leaves, in my mind, but am hoping for some technological assistance with this. 0_o

My first pass at this seems to indicate that NagVis is a tool that can accomplish such a visualization. However, it seems to be a bit bulky for what I actually want to do.

How do you visualize your Nagios configuration?

Nagvis is definitely a nice tool, but as you said may be a bit large for this purpose. The Network Status Map may be of use to you. It will show you the host parent / child relationships, however it will not show services.
