guys which is the preffered, method of monitoring snmp traps:
The snmptrap wizard or NSTI?
Along with that, when I go to admin\...\manage mibs, and check the "process trap" box and the mib successfuly gets imported, is there anything else I have to do to to use the mib with my trap?

Re: SNMP vs NSTI
Oh no you're not going down this path... not allowed!
In all honesty it depends on what you are looking to get out of traps. NSTI and the snmptrap wizard do work together, the trick is that nsti can definitely allow better filtering and logging of traps. If you don't care about that and only want to see the immediate ones or look at the previous state history, the default check\wizard work just fine. If you are going to use NSTI, please be sure to use 2.0 and not 1.4.
As for the second question, yes you need to also run the addmib command on that new file. Uploading only puts it into the actual directory.

Re: SNMP vs NSTI
HAHA possibly your best post yet! If you want to setup NSTI, we are happy to help. I just had to take a poke or two at you. I also will say that it can make putting traps into XI a lot easier, but doesn't do too much for adding mibs other than recognizing when unknown traps are coming in. If you still want me to lock it up we can, otherwise let us know if you have issues with NSTI.

Re: SNMP vs NSTI
nah I am good. doing the add mib portion is what I missed.
and more important: we work too hard to not crack jokes and have fun while we get the job done.
The day I become that old, fat, weird looking tech who you just KNOW by the look on his face that if his mom had'nt forced him to come he would be back in his room, at the command prompt...
On that day for the love of >insert religious belief here< take me down, put me outta my misery.
you can lock it up bro.
