DNS_Outbound Critical

Post by Motorizer »

Hey guys,

I couldn't find an answer to this Problem on google, so I hope you can help me with this. We're using Nagios3 on a debian Lenny Server. Since Monday I receive the following Error-Mails:

***** Nagios *****

Notification Type: PROBLEM

Service: DNS_outbound
Host: ###
Address: ###.###.de
State: CRITICAL

Date/Time: Wed Aug 28 11:39:22 CEST 2013

Additional Info:

DNS CRITICAL - expected 212.###.###.###,212.###.###.### but got 2.###.###.###
*********************************************************************************************************

My Question is, what DNS_Outbound means. Our main Administrator is on Vacation and I'm not really experienced with Nagios, so I hope you guys can help me. Thank you!

Hi Motorizer,

Service names are not set in stone, and are chosen by the administrator of the server (they will usually indicate what the service is checking). This is most likely why there would be nothing on google relating to your error.

However, if you check for the additional info in the email, you will find more info (i.e. google "DNS CRITICAL - expected").

In this case it looks like he's using the check_dns plugin.

Assuming you have access to the server, and know that he's trying to check specifically, the following link might be useful;

Good luck!

Kind Regards,
