Recurring Downtime

Post by drakeu »

Hello,

We have recently installed the latest version of Nagios XI (2009R1.3G). I setup a service group with all the services for one of our hosts in it. I then setup recurring downtime for the host and for the service group set for the same times. The host downtime was scheduled as expected by Nagios, however it did not set downtime for the service group. Please advise. Thanks!

Nagios XI
32 bit
Manual Install
RHEL 5.3
No special configurations

If you schedule downtime for a host, it should automatically handle all of the services that are children of that host. If I understand you correctly, are you scheduling downtime for the same same set of services twice? (Once because the host is down, the second because all of those services are assigned to the service group).

What are the results when you schedule downtime for either the host, or the service group individually?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay as I have been out of the office for the holidays. I have tried scheduling just the host as well as just the services. So far my only success has been the host. When I select recurring downtime for a host/services and define just the host it works and schedules it. However if I add services to the host/services schedule it doesn't schedule any downtime for the host or services. If I create the recurring downtime just using a servicegroup it doesn't work either (host and services don't get schdeduled). Do you know how long after scheduling recurring downtime it takes for Nagios to see the new recurring downtime schedule? Do I need to restart any Nagios services after creating a recurring downtime schedule?

Thanks,
Mike

Most configuration changes require a restart of Nagios in order to take effect, I actually don't know off hand if that's required for recurring downtime. I'd try it after making a change and see if it makes a difference. I'll run a few tests and see if I can figure out some more details on this.

I have tried restarting Nagios but it has not solved the issue. For now I'm going to try and use schedules as a workaround for keeping a couple of my servers from notifying during reboots. Let me know if you find anything. Thanks.

Not sure if this helps or not, but I believe XI handles downtime the same way as Core does in it's behavior with notifications and such.

Thanks,

Yes I'm familiar with that and its helpful. Just wanted to point out that the new functionality with scheduling reoccurring downtime in Nagios XI doesn't seem to work - or at least for us.

I just added this to our bug tracker to investigate:

FYI - we just verified the bug with recurring downtime and servicegroups and have applied a fix to our latest code. It will be included in the 1.4B release soon. Thanks for the report!
