Slow Apply Configuration with Network Switch Router wizard

Post by niebais »

Centos 6 64 Bit
Nagios XI 2012 R 2.3

Ok,
This is an interesting problem we just discovered recently that we've found on two large clients so far. When you use the Network Switch Router wizard and you monitor a router with 300+ ports, it gets really interesting. The apply configuration process slows down incredibly.

From what I've been able to gather, the NagiosQL database doesn't handle it very well if there are tons of services connected to one host and greatly increases the amount of time it takes to apply the configuration. In one instance it took over 15 minutes to apply the configuration. I found this one rather easily by adding just two routers that have over 300 ports on them and found this one rather quickly.

If those hosts are disabled in the interface, does apply configuration work quickly once again?

Yeah that doesn't seem to make a difference.

This bug is interesting simply because it appears to be a NagiosQL dependency Mysql problem. I'll send you my config files if needed. It's pretty easy to duplicate.

We may want to move you over to ticketing system. I added a mock host with 300 ports (600 checks) the other night and didn't experience the slowdown, maybe I missed something?

Add 3 of those. Each of the hosts we added have 600 ports on them each. It's a really basic configuration, but I've seen this happen twice now and each had these gigantic core routers they needed monitored. Where would you like me to send the configuration files?
