I actually just added the emails and SMS number to the email fields in the CCM, and then added the notify-host-by-email command to the list of selected commands. However, I did have an issue getting my test email getting sent to my yahoo account. Make sure to sent test emails to these alternate accounts to know for sure that the mail server can get to them.

XI version 1.4 is out now, so if you need to add a custom mobile carrier you can do that now with the latest release.

This work-around didn't work for us either, and is quite a sticking issue - we don't want to manage multiple 'contacts' per user but badly need to be able to contact them via multiple methods - and not all at the same time. I need to e-mail OR SMS not e-mail AND SMS all the time. Having fields for contact data that we can't use is very misleading - even making the changes in the commands and adding commands has failed. This worked in nagios core - are we paying for less functionality?

Please use the Configure->My Account Settings-> notification settings/preferences pages for situations like these. This will allow you to enable/disable email or SMS notifications, and easily customize your contact's notifications preferences. You can test and verify user settings by using the "Masquerade" feature for the user on the Admin->User Management page. Please see the documentation on how users and contacts differ in XI.

That doesn't actually help with my issue. That lets me, for each user, set up e-mail AND SMS or e-mail OR SMS (and works great for that)... but not both to be contacted in different situations. Let me explain:

Say server1's /var starts filling. It gets to 85% and that's what we have set as the warn level. We want that to *email* the primary and secondary admins and their team lead.
They're not paying attention to their e-mail and it gets to 95% - this is critical. We want that to *page* the primary and secondary admins and e-mail the team alias.
They're still not paying attention and it's been at critical for 25 minutes - we now want it to *page* the entire team.

I know how to handle the escalation parts of this, but the different contact methods part has been effectively removed from XI - I'm left setting up two users/contacts per admin to be able to e-mail or page as desired, rather then writing different notification commands as I would have in nagios core.

Ok, that makes more sense as to what you're needing.

I would suggest entering that as a feature request on our tracker, as seen from the notes above you're not the only person who would have need for this feature.
