Oddly enough about the time I sent that last email, I noticed the problem w=
asn't one of re-entrance into the free_memory function, but appears to be o=
ne of re-entrance into some of the things it touches.
So looking closer, I don't think I'll HAVE to have this be a separate garba=
ge collection event, although it may be wise to do so sometime. We'll let =
the profiling determine whether or not to do that, in the meantime I'm goin=
g to try to work out the access control issues over the weekend.
