May I suggest that the NRPE protocol be changed to allow a
banner to be emitted by the daemon upon connection? That'll make
manual testing that the daemon is operating properly easier as
well as remote identification. Network operations technicians
don't always know how to run check_nrpe against a machine to
check that NRPE is working, but a lot can be instructed to
telnet to port 5666 and check the banner.
