I was wondering whether it would be possible to modify Nagios (or the
NSCA daemon) in such a way that it logs the source address for an
incoming service status update. Might seem a bit superfluous to most,
but would you believe that in the environment we're working in right
now most people don't even know -which systems- are submitting the
passive checks? o_O
Having this extra field in a log file somewhere would make
troubleshooting much easier. It would also allow us to do some
additional checking to safeguard ourselves against spoofing.
