I used recurring downtime yesterday for the first time for a few dozen hosts/services that go down for backups and all of them now have at least 30 comments. If I remove the comments they come back.
It appears that the recurring downtime is adding these comments. I have deleted the downtimes but still need a way to remove the comments from about 150 services and find a resolution before next Sunday. I have found a few posts from the past few years about this problem but no resolutions.

Let's clarify - you have deleted all of the entries in: Home->Incident Management->Recurring Downtime and Home->Incident Management->Scheduled Downtime, but the comments still appear in the GUI?

I then ran a script to delete all the comments (there were over 15900 comments). I have now also removed the entries from Home->Incident Management->Scheduled Downtime. If it would be helpful I can test out adding a recurring downtime and then removing entries from both spots to see if comments are removed. However that wouldn't address by actual problem of the comments being added in the first place.

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
When you remove the entry for a host/service downtime from "Recurring Downtime" and "Scheduled Downtime", the comments will be removed automatically. I will do some more digging into this and will try to recreate the issue in house.

It may help to note that I scheduled a recurring downtime on a service group

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
We have the same problem, also with recurring downtime of a servicegroup. Noticed this few months ago already, but didn't have the time to make a post for it...

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
I was able to somewhat recreate the issue. When I scheduled a recurring downtime for a service group, I had a multiple comments added. When I deleted the entry by going to: Home->Recurring Downtime->Service Groups, the comments lingered. They disappeared only after I removed all of the entries in Home->Scheduled Downtime... which was pain, because I had to remove quite many services. I posted an internal bug report already. I believe our developers will have to take a look at it next week (the earliest), since we are hosting the Nagios World Conference 2013 at the moment.

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
Ok, thanks. The downtime does seem to work, apart from the comments, so no hurry.
