Issues after Nagios upgrade to NagiosXi 2011

Post by griffithusg »

Hi,

I have recently upgraded to NagiosXi2011 from Xi1.4 and have noticed a few things.
Firstly The time it take for the services to be fully populated in the Xi Interface is considerably longer than what it used to be in Xi1.4. straight after a restart it can take up to 5 minutes before i see any services and then it can be up to 24 hours before it becomes fully populated. If i view the localhost/nagios link i can see that nagios is actually checking the hosts and it is fully populated.

The other issue I have is the /etc/profile does not appear to get loaded when you restart nagios through the website. If I restart the nagios system using the /etc/init.d/nagios script it get the profile no worries at all. I can work around this, but it would be nice if it did pick up the hosts /etc/profile. What mechanism does nagios use to restart itself when doing a config export and restart?

Thanks :)

Roughly how many hosts and services do you have running in your environment?

We added some performance customizations in the latest release. If you go to Admin->Performance Settings, you can adjust some of the settings for the web UI, which might be necessary if you're running a large environment. I recommend using the "unified" tactical overview and group pages for increased performance. (This is still a fairly new feature, so any feedback on the difference that it makes would be helpful to us).

I believe it just does a:
service nagios restart

Hello, Thanks for the reply.

Currently I am only using a very small selection of hosts and services. roughly 5 hosts and maybe 50 or so services. This is why I am a little concerned.

I had spotted the unified view and had thought this may have made a difference, unfortunately this has not made any difference.

The ENV is a Redhat 5.4 VM.
Load does not appear to be very high at all.
Memory use is also low.

I will do some testing around the restarts and profile issues.

Thanks for the reply.

In 1.4b we added some scripts for doing some DB maintenance in hopes to prevent broken or excessively large tables. The goal was to improve performance, however, there appears to be a bug in this that has done the opposite. I'm guessing this is the issue you're encountering as well. We're hoping to have a patch ready today.

Ok so I upgraded and the only problem I can report is that Everything is broken when opening it in google chrome. Works fine on IE. Not sure if this is something on my install but it shows the menus and then everything else is just white.

Unfortunately at this time Firefox is the only supported browser but hope to in the future be able to support others such as Chrome.
