Nagios XI 64bit VM?

Post by Box293 »

Do you plan to release a Nagios XI 64bit VM?

I really like the VM images that you provide as it's one less thing I need to think about and it's a big time saver.

I guess we haven't had many requests for the 64bit VM. The 32bit VM's tend to perform a bit better because mysql doesn't eat up as much memory on the 32bit machines. But this is probably something we could add to our downloads if you think you'd use it.

Memory is what I will want more of in the future. Currently my XI VM has 3GB of memory allocated to it and uses about 2.6GB on average.

As we add more checks there will become a point where we will need to break through that 32bit 4GB limit.

Ok, well we can probably add that to our TODO list. Just a note on this, I ran some benchmark tests a physical box and a VM this week. The VM had 512MB or RAM, while the physical box had 3.5 gigs. Both machines ran consistently at about 92-95% Memory Usage with 5000 checks at a 5mn interval (The memory usage for about 300 checks also runs about the same). MySQL in particular is somewhat opportunistic with memory in that it will simply grab most of the available memory on a machine if it can, and this effect seems greater on a 64bit system. This can change based on the check plugins you're running, but I thought you might be interested to know.

We will take note of this and definitely let everyone know when this comes about.
