Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
Actually, I tested this script for the first time today. It did remove most of the comments like a charm. After applying configuration though, some of the comments (not all) reappeared. It can still be useful.

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
I believe this bug has been fixed, out of curiosity how are you scheduling the downtime that adds so many comments?
Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
I was wrong about the comments in the database. There are some notes stored in the database, but this is different. The comments reappear on nagios restart. I can verify that even if you removed all of the comments, if you have hosts/services scheduled for downtime, new comments WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CREATED on nagios restart. I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
This is definitely a bug. The recurring downtimes work well on individual hosts or services but if a service group is used then that is when the hundreds or thousands of comments are added. I should maybe also point out that some of the services are in multiple service groups. However all of them had hundreds of comments.

I am not so sure if this is a bug. Our developers also share this view. I makes sense to have a comment if you have a host/service scheduled for a downtime. This is definitely a bug. Besides, it works the same way if you schedule a single host or service for a downtime or if you schedule a hostgroup/servicegroup for downtime. Try it yourself. Schedule a single host for recurring downtime. When you see the comment under "Acknowledgements and Comments" (Home->Acknowledgements), delete it. Restart the nagios service:

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
The problem is that a comment is constantly added every hour. Over the course of a weekend I came in Monday morning to thousands of comments on a few dozen hosts/services.
As a temporary work around I deleted the service group recurring downtime (including having to delete the thousands of comments) and added a separate downtime for each host or service - this only adds a single comment.
This cannot be a "feature" - it seriously impacted response time of the interface and general usability.

Is upgrading to the latest version of Nagios XI an option for you? There are some bug fixes in R2.5, including the recurring downtime:
It is possible that upgrading will fix your issue.
Note: If you have multiple comments for the same downtime, this is not normal. How many comments do you have, compared to the downtimes that are scheduled?

Re: Recurring downtime adding hundreds of comments
I have an upgrade scheduled for this Sunday morning. After the upgrade I will test the recurring downtimes again.
