Parent Relationship

Post by eddiez »

Has anyone and could someone share an example of setting up parent relationship? I am a little confused on what the parent should be in my services and hosts.

Thanks,

Ed

For me, right now, my parenting is only setup for my network devices. The switch's parent is set to the switch it is plugged into. That way, if a higher up switch goes down, won't get alerts for the down the line stuff.

As for services, that would really depend on your environment.

This is exactly how most people use parents. If Nagios needs to go through a host A before it can reach host B, then it is logical that host A should be host B's parent.

This way if host A is down, it will mark host B as UNREACHABLE instead of DOWN
