Feature Request: SNMPv3 support for Network Switch / Router

Post by cfgriffith »

We would like to request the ability to monitor switches and their ports via SNMPv3. Currently in our installed version of the wizard Network Switch / Router Monitoring Wizard it seems to only support version 2.

Linux Version: RHEL v5 64-bit
I believe we did a manual install but I am not sure.

The SNMPv3 support hasn't been implemented in the Network Switch/Router Wizard yet, because it requires a new version of MRTG. It will be implemented in the Nagios XI 2014. I believe that SNMPv3 is currently supported with the SNMP and SNMP Walk Monitoring Wizards. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to get similar functionality Network Switch / Router Monitoring Wizard with those two wizards? I.E. Port up/down monitoring and bandwidth monitoring. Or would we have to essentially write a check for it?

Possible, yes, but not very likely. There are a few big hangups with how mrtg has to be handled for dealing with bandwidth monitoring, and that is why we suggest that wizard for bandwidth checks. The walk and get wizards should support ifOperStatus.x out of the box. The snmpwalk wizard should find those oids, and the snmp wizard should be able to check the ifOperStatus oids.
