Nagios server on AIX 6.3/7.1

Post by vpundit »

Hi guys!

I'm new here, but I've always been interested in Nagios products for a long time. I've always primarily been a Unix guy supporting only AIX servers for many years.

More recently I've been working with Windows and AIX and solaris.

Before I start poking around and trying to figure out a way I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen or had a successful install hosting Nagios on AIX.

Hosting on AIX I know maybe a bit tricky and would involve quite a bit of work to do. (not that I'm not willing just time is a factor =) )

To host on Windows maybe easier with the help of cygwin. Unfortunately I do not have any linux systems and Installing a VM is out of the question. (More because It would only be used by me)

I cam across this website while on my search for someone who has already completed installing on AIX but it might be outdated.

I'm currently working on AIX 6.1 and 7.1.

Here is the URL:

http://www.gbl-software.de/nagiosbinaries/index.html

So has anyone recently been successful to host Nagios on an AIX Server?

I just want to clarify before we go further, are you trying to install Nagios Core on these systems? Or are you just trying to monitor them? If you are trying to monitor them I suggest you install Core on Centos/RHEL/Ubuntu, and then install agents on those remote servers, or set up passive checks. In this way, you do not bloat the remote servers, and your configuration will be much more simple to maintain.

Hi,

I'm actually looking to install nagios core on AIX Systems. I would have to seek approvals and such to get a linux distro installed ether on our p-series servers or a new VM, and wouldn't be worth the hassle. It would most likely get declined as well since it would only be used by me.

I've been doing some digging around and it appears that you can get a valid installation going, what issues you might run into, I'm not sure. I have not been able to find any tutorials for you on this out in the web but I'm sure someone has covered it somewhere before, it's just not a hot topic in google page rankings.
