Nagios XI and RHEL6

Post by soitroncz »

Hello guys,

were currently working on implementation for our customer, which, actually was pretty active and provided physical server with RHEL6 pre-installed (incl. subscription ofc). Going through scripts for manual installation (and checking this forum as well), its pretty clear that support for this platform is not finished yet. Still, I would really appreciate to receive some support for this platform. Do you have any internal schedule for bringing this up to life? Do you have at least some 'night builds' which could help me to get things running? Or any other kind of support/tips? (RHEL5/Centos5 actually is not solution for us) I have like two weeks deadline to have it done, which is not enough I guess :-)
Either we like it or not, RHEL6 is already like 3 months here and theres serious chance that customers who pick "enterprise ready" Nagios XI want to stick it to "enterprise ready" linux too.
Any help as well as any interesting information or experience about this issue will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Michal

Yeah, we were just talking about this again the other day. When RHEL 6 released I was being told that CentOS would be releasing their build of el6 probably a month or so later, so figured I'd just hold off for that to do my testing, as it's a little easier to create and destroy a bunch of test images with. For reasons still unknown to me that never happened, leaving us in our current situation.

As far as tips, the biggest thing is figuring out the prerequisite packages, looking for ones that have changed names, moved from one repository to another, etc. The 1-prereqs script in the XI tarball lists them for RHEL 5, so we would need to track down all of their equivalents and make adjustments as necessary. Most of the "normal" packages are likely not to complicated - I would say the most likely thing to be somehow problematic would be the Perl libraries.

This has been sitting on my "to-do" list without a particular timeline, so I'd be happy to poke at it some more along with you and see if we make any progress.

Hi Tony,

thank you for your response regarding to my problem. I can hopefully provide as much support/input info as possible to make you life easier too :-) Just let me know how could I help. You should be easily able to get 30day-trial subscription for RHEL6 with your own RHN account for some temporary testing environment. I could maybe even manage to provide remote access to my system environment (cant guarantee tho). And of course, any "system investigation" I could help with remotely is not a problem at all. Can we switch to some email conversation maybe? We can provide any help / detail info for other forum users later when the progress is done of course.

Hello soitroncz,

thank you for the offer of remoting in, I believe we either have a RHEL license or like you mentioned grab a trial for some R&D to get this going for RHEL 6. I will be helping Tony to test this and we will report back here asap, or may even PM/email you as well.
