Strange request to modify the Operations Screen

Post by snapon_admin »

Ok, so I'm not sure this is possible at all, but is there a way to edit the Operations screen so that alerts of a specific type (in our case Bandwidth alerts) do not show up here? Our operations has been instructed to ignore bandwidth alerts as action is already taken by the network team, but they (ops) monitor the operations screen which often has several bandwidth alerts on it. They would like for those to not show up there if possible.

Hmm this is an interesting request. Would you want something along the lines of regex in config an ops screen config menu, or a tick box on the host\service (config?) settings? I'm sure it could be done, I'm just not sure how likely we are to do it and what the best way to go about it would be. I think the former of regex exclusions would probably be best, but thats just my thought.

I was also thinking regex exclusions would be best, but also have no idea how or if it'd be possible. Being able to exclude say 'Bandwidth' would be enough to make this work for our needs since all of our bandwidth alerts contain that expression. It's fairly low priority, but I figured I'd check to see how possible it would be and see what you all thought. Could be a pretty handy feature.

I'll put in an internal feature request for the dev team.

Do you mind if I lock this up? I can just PM or email you when I get a notification of changes on this task.

I am unlocking this for further discussion in regards to our internal feature request (2136).

This page is already limited down to only show items that the user has rights to see. Are your (ops) set to be monitoring contacts for all the checks they are told to ignore? If so it would seem to make more sense to remove them from being contacts for those particular items as that is how Nagios was designed to work.

sorry, didn't even realize you reopened this. Yes, once I removed them from getting those alerts at all that solved this issue for us. I just assumed Operations Center showed ALL hosts no matter what, but I had them check their Operations Center after I removed them from the bandwidth notifications and bandwidth issues don't show up for them anymore. I did have another request from them, however. Currently there is no way to click on the services or hosts that have issues directly from either Operations Screen or Operations Center. Is there any way to modify these pages to allow for that? Right now, if there's an issue that needs addressing they need to search for the service with the issue in order to acknowledge it or view more details. It seems like a minor inconvenience to me, but I told them I would check if there was anything I could do.

Bump for visibility on this question. Or this can be closed and I can ask in a new thread, whichever is preferred.
