How many user macros that Nagios XI can support?

The nth user-definable macro. User macros can be defined in one or more resource files. Nagios supports up to 256 user macros ($USER1$ through $USER32$).

Links says 256 but it shows as $USER1$ through $USER32$. Is that supposed to $USER1$ through $USER256$?
