Duplicating everything to another XI Instance

Post by [email protected] »

We are setting up multiple nagiosXI instances for redundancy and they'll all be the same in respect to hosts, hostgroups, services, etc. Obviously different locations, servers, etc. Is there anyway to export/import configured hosts and hostgroups from one instance to another?

Did some searching and know there isn't a way to manage multiple instances from one instance. I see we have configuration snapshots and can save them. Not sure what that contains and if I could import that into another instance......

Well, you can run a backup and restore procedure, that will mirror everything over.

There is not a specific way to see all of your nagios servers, from one of them, but we do offer software called Nagios Fusion that allows you to tie them all together:

Yup we'll definitely be getting Fusion at some point to use as a fail over solution. I was playing with Fusion some last night, and it'll fit that need nicely. Just wish there was a central management solution.

Well, you can push your host/service check results up to a central server by using outbound and inbound checks:

This may seem rudimentary......but I did exactly that and ALL the hostgroups were there. PHENOMENAL and saved me HOURS of work. Is there a way for me to tell that the 'localhost' it's monitoring is the actual localhost instead of where I copied the backup from?

Meaning I made a back up of server A and copied to server B. Restored on server B from backup of A. Is the localhost now considered server A eventhough it's installed on server B?

Am I over complicating this?

The new localhost on the new server would be monitoring that local server itself, as it's address is 'localhost' so you should be good to go!
