How do I convert Nagios Port Numbers to Cisco Interfaces

Post by jfarley »

Hello, I'm new to Nagios and just installed the trial version. I've configured several Cisco switches, but I don't see the traditional Gig1/X interface, but rather Port Number 142. How do I convert Port 142 to the appropriate Cisco interface?

If your switch has the capability to use named ports which it sounds like it does, you should be able to run the switch & router wizard, but before you run the scan select "port name" from the drop down. I believe this is what you are looking for, if it is not, let us know!

The configuration choices are Port Number or Port Description. Are you referring to Port Description? If so, that is something which would have been manually input such as "Jane's PC" whereas I'm looking for the standard Cisco "GigX/X" style interface naming scheme.

After reconfiguring the switch, I found out that configuring as Port Description did provide the information I needed. Thanks!
