Just completed our upgrade to the 2014 release. Upgrade went smoothly, except for one little problem I'll detail below. Looks great, Nagios! Thank you!
Ran into one problem, hopefully this will be of use to someone else--
My first attempt to install bombed with an error during one of the earlier compiling stages. CONFIG ERROR! Restart aborted. Right before running the upgrade, I had gone into the CCM and clicked Apply Configuration. I was hoping to uncover any config errors beforehand, but it returned everything ok. Once I tried to run the upgrade and it failed, I went straight back into the CCM and hit Apply Configuration again. This time, it did return an error and the config wasn't applied. I was then able to look at the error message in the CCM, and found an old service I had removed still had a .cfg file around with no host tied to it. I just manually deleted the file referenced, found the service listing in the CCM and removed that as well. After clicking Apply Configuration again, the config applied successfully and the upgrade worked fine.

I had this same problem as well and followed the same procedure as you. All went well with the install. I have another thread open for an unrelated issue, but overall everything went smoothly. Just chiming in to mention I had this same 'CONFIG ERROR! Restart aborted' issue as well.
