NRPE help needed

I'm running the latest version of Nagios XI (2011R1.2) and am trying to use NRPE in a multi-site configuration communicating with hosts at other sites behind firewalls. I've got the NSclient installed and configured according to what I've found on the internet and am able to run "check_nrpe" commands from the CLI of the Nagios XI box and they work fine, but when I create a new host and set it to use "check_nrpe" as the Check Command it's Sync Status stays at "Sync Missed" and never changes. I know NRPE is functioning on the client since I can get responses from the CLI, but it appears that for some reason Nagios XI itself isn't attempting to communicate with the host.

Any ideas?

After making the change in the Core Configuration Manager, are you able to "Apply Configuration" and have it execute successfully? The configurations set up in the Core Config Manager will not take effect in Nagios until the "Apply Configuration" button is clicked and completes successfully.
