Nagios Upgradation

Post by lafargeuser »

Currently I am running Nagios XI 2012R1.2 & wanted to upgrade with latest RELEASED Nagios XI 2014 .

I have some questions before upgrading it to latest release in production environment.

Can I upgrade it to latest release ?
Is there any cost involved ?
The latest released is stable & can I install it on production server ?
In production, I am monitoring around 200+ servers using XI & also I have integrated Nagios to Service Now & Remedy (Help Desk Tool) for auto ticketing.
will that be impacted if I upgraded to latest release.

Also please share latest upgradation document.

Yes

If you are a current customer with an active maintenance plan the upgrade is at no cost. If you are still within your trial or are using the free 7-node license there is also no cost.

The auto ticketing would all depend on the specifics of how you have it set up.

Reason: There is actually no need to wait. The few issues we have seen are very environment specific and we have worked through them swiftly, with no changes to the software needed. -SW

Yes, you can upgrade to XI 2014R1.0 release. It is stable and in my opinion it is the best release we've ever had. Make sure you don't have any config errors and "ghost" hosts/services (or dependencies to "ghosts") PRIOR to running the upgrade script as if you do, the upgrade will fail.

Thanks.
To check any config error, I just went to CCM-Apply Configuration. All went well. Below is the output. Hope this is what you were saying.

Applying Configuration
Command submitted for processing...
Waiting for configuration verification... .................
Configuration applied successfully.
Success! Nagios Core was restarted with an updated configuration.

You should run it from the command line as well, just to be sure:

Code: Select all

/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg

Is there any way to upgrade it to newer version without internet access.

You will need to contact [email protected] to discuss if that is an option or not. I'd recommend taking one of your failover XI systems offline and bringing it up in an open network so you can update it, then place it back in the closed network and do the same with the other.
