Hypermap Access

Post by Fred Kroeger »

I have a group of users that get the following message when they try to access Hypermap - "You are not authorized to view all hosts and services."
I have setup these users for a Multi-Tenant scenario - they can only see the Hosts that they are a contact for.
I would have expected that Hypermap would then just display the relevant hosts however it appears that Hypermap only works for those users configured to "view all hosts & services"
Network Status Map works for these users, however it is scaled as if all the 300 servers configured should be displayed - which makes it pretty hard to view the 40 servers they want to view.

Is there any way I can get Hypermap working for users that can't view all hosts?

I'm seeing the same behavior on my end. For the users, what permissions do you have enabled? I did not check any of their boxes on my system.

And can you post a screenshot of the Network Status Map? I'm going to file a bug report for this and screenshots help with that.

I don't think so. Users should be authorized to view all hosts in order to view the hypermap.

BTW, we had other customers asking for a this type of functionality, so this could be a nice feature request. I am just now sure how this is going to be displayed on the map.

For example, you have a parent-child relationships as such:

Host A -> Host B -> Host C

Let's say your user is authorized to see Host A and Host C, but not Host B.

What would be the best way to show this in a map? Empty space, dotted line...? It may look weird. :) Any ideas?

You are welcome to post a feature request on our bug tracker or I can do it for you.

Hmmm... interesting question.
I think the correct way would be to display a box with the current state of that host to show that there is a dependency. They just shouldn't be able to click on it.

I think Hyper Map should work for whatever hosts a user is able to see. Can you combine my thoughts with those of the others that have talked about this and create a feature request please ?

thanks.... Fred
