Ok, I think I got it working. Looking at the expanded list I noticed there is now a section called:

; A list of scripts available to run from the CheckExternalScripts module. Syntax is: <command>=<script> <arguments>
[/settings/external scripts/scripts]

Added the command under this and I can now pull data from the Nagios terminal.

Excellent, now you are just a hop-skip away from monitoring the service within Nagios, now that you have done it once it should be a breeze to add in more custom plugins if need me, or replicate this process on a new machine. NSClient++ can be difficult to work with for the first time, but once you understand the logic flow behind it's configuration it can be a great asset.

Yes, indeed. Thanks for all the help with this! It's very refreshing to see people willing to help on this application.

Thanks!

Almost!

Before you do, can you give me a quick example on where to add the hard values in Nagios if i want to have the ARG statements in the INI file? I'd like to set it up to where I can adjust the values on the nagios server now.

I have the INI file:
check_winfile = scripts\check_winfile.exe --target C:\Traces --warn $ARG3$ --critical $ARG4$

and in the windows.cfg statement I have:
define service {

use ise-service
host_name CSXENCLUFS
service_description File Count
check_command check_nrpe!check_winfile -a 2000 -a 10000
}

It doesn't seem to like this idea.

You would need to define these arguments in the commands.cfg file under the command you are using to call this plugin, like so:

define command {
command_name check_winfile
command_line $USER1$/check_nrpe -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -c $ARG1$
THEN ADD IN THE CORRESPONDING PORTIONS OF YOUR COMMAND, BE SURE TO INCLUDE ARGUMENT'S CORRESPONDING TO THE POSITION YOU WISH TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE VIA THE SERVICE CONFIG
}

And in the service definition, arguments are denoted by "!'s" like so:

define service {

use ise-service
host_name CSXENCLUFS
service_description File Count
check_command check_nrpe!check_winfile!
exampleArg2!exampleArg3!
}

You can also see an example of this in the following document:

http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagi ... h_NRPE.pdf

be sure that these arguments work by testing the command from the command line first, and then adding it to the configuration.

Thanks! I'll take a look.

You can close the thread out.
