NagEvLogCtrl Installation - Windows 2008 Server R2

Post by citpaj »

Can anyone tell me the exact steps to install NagEvLogCtrl on Windows 2008 Server R2, including the required version of the Visual C++ distribution? I need to know what version of NagEvLogCtr to use (1.9.2?), whether or not to copy over the nagevlog.exe and NagEvLogCtrl.exe supplied with EventLog-64bit, where to put those files (if required), etc.

Thanks.

You should be able to use the version in the documentation just fine, it should also prompt you if any other software packages are required during the MSI installer:

This is a known issue. When you try to install NagEventLog on a 64-bit machine, you would get 2 or 3 error messages. However, it would still work (or at least it worked for me when I was testing it). Keep clicking on "OK" button until the errors disappear. Let me know if this helped.

Hi,

As suggested I kept on clikcing "OK" button until the error disappeared.

After the installation is completed I have clicked " Configure eventLog Agent " icon for which I got the below error . Please suggest the way to overcome this issue and get eventlog monitoring enabled.

This worked for me on Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't tested it on Windows 2008 Server R2. Unfortunately, the "NagEventLog" is a 3rd party software. It is not developed/maintained by us (Nagios). I found an old post in which Steve Shipway (the developer of NagEventLog) touches on the subject:

http://www.steveshipway.org/forum/viewt ... =22&t=1681

At this point, you have a few options as I see it:

1. Contact the developer and see if he's got a solution
2. Use NSClient++
3. Use Nagios Log Server

Hope this helps.
