Unable to configure Email set up on Nagios

Post by pasha.firdous »

Hi all,

I have set up a new machine on Amazon cloud, and configured Nagios XI.

The monitoring seems pretty fine, where in i can poll devices and list aelrts do the threshold configurations.

Unfortunately i am unable to configure email set up so send the reports and data to me thru an email.

what i have done :
Enabled smtp port on the machine.,
tried both sendmail and smtp options for test email options

Please help me with what the email settings i will have to do in mail settings.
Does Nagios have its own email engine to distribute email across the domains and outside the domain(ex: gmail.com??)

Should the machine be internet aware for sending emails? across domains or outside domains

i have followed the settings as advised in URL below, but no go so far
http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagi ... ations.pdf

expecting some assistance for setting up my nagios with emails configured to send emails.
Also if SMTP is used, what shud the SMTP settings involve.

Thanks,
Pasha

On EC2 you are almost certain to have to use SMTP to send to outbound addresses as Amazon does some blocking of standard port 25 traffic to prevent spammers from using their service as a spam farm.

The SMTP setting should be set to that of a SMTP account you have. Your system administrator should be able to give you the pertinent information.
