Starting recently, my Nagios XI instance is not generating notifications at all. Looking through the log files, I can see various services that have generated alerts and hit the threshold at which they should be generating a notification email (5 of 5 attempts made), but a notification is never generated. (There are no "NOTIFICATION" lines in nagios.log)
Notifications emails are sent fine if I perform a custom notification, so I don't believe this to be an email configuration issue.

I had used the notification management tool to deploy a new message format. In doing so, I mistakenly disabled notifications for all users because all of the boxes in the "Notification Options" tab were unchecked. I thought I had fixed this, but then later realized I didn't perform a second "apply configuration" to enable all of the notifications again. A quick check of my contacts.cfg file confirmed this.
Notifications have returned to normal, and I've learned a little bit more how Nagios works in the process...
