Patching the VM OS (CentOS)

Post by fmpub »

Quick Question;

Is there any reasons that I should not periodically run a yum update on the VM to make sure that all the OS files are patched and up to date WRT security errata etc. Will updating the OS in any way break my XI Install? Just want to check and see what everyone eases experiences have been in this matter.

I've heard that sometimes CentOS updates can be more disruptive than some other distros, but so far I haven't seen any issues with doing this on our testing and internal images. Of course, the usual "make backups" advice applies, but I would say doing the updates and patching security stuff would be preferable to leaving them as-is.
