[Nagios-devel] Re: [Nagios-users] Version 2.0 timeframe?

Post by Guest »

Well, based on how long it took me to read and respond to this
message, it could be quite a while. :-) As of right now, 2.0 is
"pretty much done". There are some outstanding patches that I need
to apply, but I am going to hold off adding any more major things
until 3.0.

The biggest thing holding a beta release back is some unfinished
documentation. The 2.0 docs can be found in CVS - see that "What's
New" document for the "TODO" list of what's left to document. Most
of it has to do with scheduled and passive host checks, which affects
distributed and redundant setups.

I am still trying to figure out what to do about passive host checks,
as there are a number of scenarios where they will not function as
people would expect. This mainly affects distributed monitoring,
where the host topology on master and slave servers does not look the
same. For this reason, passive host checks would probably have to be
tweaked so that DOWN states get translated into UNREACHABLE states
(and vice versa) where appropriate. I'm still not sure how or if I
should implement that internally in Nagios.

To make a long story short, a beta for 2.0 should be coming Real Soon
Now (tm). If I can get the outstanding patches applied, you'll
probably see it by the end of June (with or without completed
documentation).
