A modified patch to base/events.c has been applied to CVS. The patch
fixes the "not able to disable service checks" problem, and retains the
effect of the original patch, which prevent incorrect variable cascading.
Give the latest CVS code a try and let me know if it fixes the problem.
If so, I'll cut a new release.
